Influence of Impact Parameter Fluctuations on Transverse Momentum Fluctuations

چکیده
The preliminary NA49 results on the energy dependence of transverse momentum fluctuations over the whole Super Proton Synchrotron (SPS) energy range exhibit an unexpected effect. The ΦpT fluctuation measure used by the NA49 experiment manifests a different behavior for different charge combinations. Whereas the ΦpT is consistent with zero and independent of energy for negatively charged particles, it significantly increases for both all charged and positively charged particles at lower SPS energies. The string-hadronic ultrarelativistic quantum molecular dynamics model (UrQMD) is applied here to explain this effect. The UrQMD simulations show that the number of protons is strongly correlated with impact parameter and that the event-by-event impact parameter fluctuations are responsible for the event-by-event transverse momentum fluctuations of positively charged and all charged particles where protons are included. The observations presented in this article are important for all experiments measuring event-by-event fluctuations, especially for those using all charged particles in the analysis. The results can be also crucial for detectors with acceptances extending to the beam/target spectator domains.

Eccentricity fluctuations in an integrated hybrid approach: Influence on elliptic flow
The effects of initial state fluctuations on elliptic flow are investigated within a (3 + 1)-dimensional Boltzmann + hydrodynamics transport approach. The spatial eccentricity ( RP and part) is calculated for initial conditions generated by a hadronic transport approach (ultrarelativistic quantum molecular dynamics). Elliptic flow results as a function of impact parameter, beam energy, and tran...
متن کاملFluctuations and Transverse Momentum Distributions in the Color Clustering Approach
We present our results on transverse momentum fluctuations, multiplicity fluctuations and transverse momentum distributions for baryons and mesons in the framework of the clustering of color sources. We determine under what conditions the initial state configurations can lead to color connection, and more specifically, if variations of the initial state can lead to a transition from disconnecte...
متن کاملHow the Nonextensivity Parameter Affects Energy Fluctuations
In this article, the effect of the nonextensivity parameter on the energy fluctuations of nonextensive systems is studied in two different versions of the Tsallis statistical mechanics. Once a general expression has been reported for the energy fluctuations in the second version (Tsallis work in 1988), the energy fluctuations of an ideal gas and a harmonic oscillator are studied in the second a...
متن کاملOn Transverse Momentum Event–by–Event Fluctuations in String Hadronic Models
Transverse momentum event–by–event fluctuations are studied within the string– hadronic model of high energy nuclear collisions, LUCIAE. Data on non–statistical pT fluctuations in p+p interactions are reproduced. Fluctuations of similar magnitude are predicted for nucleus–nucleus collisions, in contradiction to the preliminary NA49 results. The introduction of a string clustering mechanism (Fir...

Recent surveys of multiplicity fluctuations, transverse momentum fluctuations, and two-particle azimuthal correlations are presented for several collision systems as a function of centrality and transverse momentum. Both multiplicity and transverse momentum fluctuations exhibit a power law scaling as a function of the number of participants that is independent of the collision system. Although ...
